Hi guys,

I only know a few KTF folks and unfortunately none
of them warriors. But I was hoping to get some
advice from you guys.

I should be 50+ by next week and am starting to
read up on how I will be outfitting and specializing
my warrior for higher end content.
As it stands I've been happy with solo/xp grind
equipment, going dual weild with a thrash blade and
fist weapon, but I know that most likely won't fit
demands of higher level tanking. I've heard good things
about the MS arms/fury build. But about every KTF warrior
I've seen is sporting a 1 hander and shield.

Any advice you guys could give would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Frumple and I use a Protection oriented build. Protection oriented builds heavily favor the use of a shield, which is why we use 1h/shield pretty much all the time. Even if you aren't Prot talent build you should use a shield for a few reasons. For things that actually hit hard enough to matter (which is a good bit of the raid content), the extra armor amounts to around an extra 10% in basic mitigation due to armor, which that in itself is decent. Block also, while not always necessarily blocking a lot of damage, can absorb some special attacks, and it isn't hard to activate every 5 seconds really. Also, Shield Bash is really great for hate and cheap to use, so it can fit into any tanking warriors' set up.

I think Arms/Fury builds are great until 60. For soloing and the lower instances a good 2h weapon and Mortal Strike are really good. The problem I have with Arms builds for Mortal Strike in raid scenarios is due to using a 1h + a shield you do gain less rage. Of course you gain more rage from being hit compared to soloing, but I find the cost of MS to consume entirely too much of your rage which you could be using on other abilities. It can also be argued that the Protection tree is useless past the first 20ish points, and while a good majority of solid talents are early in the tree, Concussion Blow is useful, One handed weapon specialization negates the defensive stance damage penalty and makes dual wield a smidge better, Improved Shield Bash is really handy when trying to pull casters, and Shield Discipline gives Shield Bash an even larger hate gain that is quite noticeable. I think it comes down to personal preference, but I generally don't have many agro issues with a Protection build.

Dual wield I find to be kind of sucky without 2 exceptionally good weapons for your level, and no skills which deal weapon damage + a fixed value use the offhand, so offhand damage is purely small reasonably consistant damage output. Even for rage gain I find 2h weapons to be better given they don't suffer the same miss penalties, and due to the damage penalties to the offhand, you are likely to only gain 1-2 rage from the offhand, and anywhere from 5-7 rage from the main hand weapon, and a good 2h weapon should get you at least 10 per swing.

As far as itemization goes, again I think it is up to personal preference/what you "feel" is better. I try to have a good mix of +defense and +dodge items while not really hosing myself stat wise, as well as keeping crit rate as high as I can. Sta is important simply to delay the time needed to be healed, but agi has significant gains to crit/dodge rate too. Str, while nice, increases the block damage pretty insignificantly it seems, or rather requires a lot of strength to see a noticeable difference in damage blocked. It has a respectable increase to your base damage output. Armor is easy to raise as if you just wear plate (which you should), you should have more than enough. I see lots of warrior wear full/almost full Valor, but I only wear the gloves/helm, and there are gloves I'd prefer to use, haven't found a helm I really prefer though. Warrior damage output will always be weaker than other classes regardless of talent build and itemization, but it is important to have a decent crit rate/high enough damage to maximize your rage gain per hit.
