So, I've been gnoming it up again, in an emulated server that tries to recreate the original EQ experience. They just released Kunark and are sticking to pretty much the original timeline. They're going to stop releasing expansions after Velious.

Has anybody tried it and/or is playing in it? I've found myself a little guild there and have made contact with a few of my Hoss guildmates from Druzzil Ro, but I haven't really found any of my old friends from Prexus.

If anybody's there and wants to go do stuff one of these days, shoot me a message (character name is Gabble, 38 magician but leveling pretty fast--should be doing some planes late next week). Alternatively, if anybody's nostalgic about the good ole days they may want to give it a shot--it's free to play, you just need an EQ client. Server population is surprisingly good (about 1k online during peak hours), there are several serious raiding guilds, and there are enough people to make the economy and grouping scene enjoyable.

We need more players so we can get KTF going again! Serran and Sadoe are playing now. We are almost a badass raid force! C'mon.. you know you want to play! Swenhund has been playing for awhile now as well.

Did I mention it is free?!

I would say playing EQ (I never did) would be worth playing more than WoW or most available things at this point... Halfway tempted but I am earning a real life achievement of becoming a home owner for + 50rlpts, Beat That Zax's!!!

I'd probably think about playing, but my real EQ account is still active although I never really log on.

Abes.. real eq is turned into I don't know what kind of disaster! I logged on there and looked around a bit a few months ago. It kind of reminds me of facebook when it was new. You could just see pics of friends and maybe send some messages, now it is just a jumble of all kinds of insanity. The project 1999 server is just having fun doing the old stuff again. Anyway, no insane raiding or anything, just kind of goofing around and enjoying it. It would just be more fun to play with old friends!

I honestly can't remember how I played this game for so long, it just looks so bad, even when it was new it looked horrible.

The good people we had fun with is my reason. It's great to get away though, but I miss you guys!

Current EQ is just a complete pile of shit, I don't get the hold out die hards that stuck it out to today, all 12 of them.

I could see the appeal of this kind of setting. EQ until PoP had this bizarre demented appeal to it.

I checked it out. I made an Erudite Necromancer, but I couldn't get out of Paineel because some asstard Mage was killing all the guards that give keys to the newbs.

but anyways, i played on p99 for about 2 days before i started to feel the same way as bam, then cobalt dragged me into dungeons and dragons online which was the complete ass opposite, great graphics but it was boring as hell.

im just trying to find something to fill my free time with until diablo 3 comes... and NOTHING seems to be working Sad :( Sad

eq was 90% about the people/community and 10% gameplay/skill....well we both know theres no skill involved with running up to something and hitting autoattack (literally) so i guess its just 10% gameplay. without people or friends playing with you the game is a complete wash, and its always been that way.

Brandon, you just need an extended break from all online games. Taking 1-2 years off from hardcore gaming really helps with burnout. Anyway, I'm still having loads of fun playing ddo. For a free-to-play game it has an incredible amount of content.
